Rihanna was born and grew
up in Barbados. In her teens, Rihanna would turn
to music and singing to distract her from family
troubles. She was discovered by music producer
Evan Rodgers when she was part of girl group, and
when Rihanna was 16, Rodgers had her move in with
he and in his wife in Connecticut to work on a
demo album. By early 2005, Rihanna auditioned
with Jay-Z's Def Jam Records and was
signed to the label.
April 11: Rihanna released A
Girl Like Me. The LP hit the Top 10 in
the US, Australia, Belgium, Hungary, Ireland,
Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the
UK, and topped the charts in Canada.
May 13: Rihanna topped the
Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks, Top 40 Mainstream
chart for 1 week, Pop 100 chart for 4 weeks,
Digital Songs chart for 3 weeks, Digital Tracks
chart for 4 weeks, and Dance Club Songs chart for
1 week with "SOS."
December 31: Rihanna topped the Billboard Year-End

June 5: Rihanna released Good
Girl Gone Bad. The LP hit the Top 10 in the US,
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Finland,
France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, New Zealand,
Norway, Poland, and Spain, and topped the charts
in Canada and Ireland.
June 9: Rihanna topped the
Billboard Hot 100 for 7 weeks, Pop 100 for 6

July 7: Rihanna topped the

7-continent concert organized by Al Gore brought
together over 100 artists to perform and raise
the world's awareness about the climate crisis
and how to make a difference to help the
environment and the world.

"Umbrella."
October 18: Rihanna topped the
Billboard Hot 100 chart for 6 weeks, Digital
