On April 17th, Paul McCartney's
wife and member of Wings,
Linda McCartney, died Friday of breast cancer
at the age of 56. Reports originally stated
that Linda McCartney had passed away while on
vacation with her family in Santa Barbara,
California - later reports confirmed she had
died in Arizona and was cremated with a
private ceremony. Linda was diagnosed with
breast cancer in 1995 and was undergoing
treatment. By March of this year, the cancer
had spread to the liver. A statement released
after Linda's death said: "The blessing
was that the end came quickly and she didn't
suffer." The statement also said the
best donation in Linda's memory would be to
get involved with charities related to cancer
research or animal welfare, "or... best
of all... go veggie." Linda McCartney
was a strong vegetarian diet and animal
rights advocate. Paul and Linda had been
married since 1969 and have 3 children
together (and one additional child from
Linda's previous marriage).
