"I'm a
big fan of doo-wop music... that's what you
call your girl, your 'doo-wop'..." - Bruno Mars
TIMELINE
Bruno Mars was born Peter
Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985 and raised in
Hawaii. The nickname 'Bruno' came from his dad in
reference to a famous wrestler (Bruno Sammartino)
with 'Mars' added to give his name 'pizzazz.'
Best known for his solo hits, Bruno had an
established history as a songwriter and producer
before becoming known as a successful solo
artist. When Bruno was 18, he signed with Motown
Records after moving to California - but his
hopes for becoming a star didn't happen. Bruno
later acknowledged that his youth would have been
a hinderance for his stardom because he was
unprepared for what it takes to be a serious
artist. Bruno joined the production team 'The
Smeezingtons' (along with Philip Lawrence and Ari
Levine) and helped produce and or co-write songs
for Flo Rida, Brandy, Cee Lo Green, Travie McCoy,
