John Legend was born John
Stephens in Ohio where he grew up before heading
to Philadelphia at the age of 16. Throughout his
childhood, Legend had mastered playing the piano
and played piano on Lauryn
Hill's single "Everything Is
Everything" while still a teen. Legend went
on to finish college, move to New York and work
with an array of musicians before releasing his
debut LP.
July 7: Legend performed at the Live Earth concert in the UK. The
7-continent concert organized by Al Gore brought
together over 100 artists to perform and raise
the world's awareness about the climate crisis
and how to make a difference to help the
environment and the world.
May 17: Legend topped the
Billboard Hot 100 chart for 3 weeks, Adult Pop
Songs chart for 4 weeks, R&B/Hip-Hop Songs
chart for 3 weeks, and R&B Songs chart with
for 12 weeks "All Of Me."
June 14: Legend topped the
Billboard Adult Contemporary chart for 10 weeks
with "All Of Me."
July 12: Legend topped the
Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart for 1 week
with "All Of Me."
February 15: Legend won a Grammy Awardfor Best
Song Written for Visual Media (awarded to the
songwriter) ("Glory"), and was
nominated for Best Rap Performance ("All Day"), Best Rap/Sung Collaboration ("One Man Can Change
The World" with Kanye West and "Glory" with
Common), and Best Rap Song (awarded to
the songwriter) ("Glory").
December 8: Legend topped the
Billboard Adult Contemporary chart for 2 weeks
with help from Esperanza Spalding
with "Have Yourself A Merry Little
Christmas."
February 25: Legend joined the TV
singing competion series The Voice as
one of the coaches.
