Ground
was dedicated to the memory of President Clinton's
late mother, Virginia Clinton. It was at her memorial
service that Barbra decided to record a collection of
inspirational songs. As Barbra said of her LP in the
linear notes: "My plan was to sing a collection
of songs that transcended any one religion, but spoke
to the hearts of all persons of faith... May these
songs fill your soul with the breath of life and
faith." The LP also contained the Top 40 duet

Barbra chatted with the Los Angeles Times
about her latest LP, Higher
Ground.
On being thought of as an ambitious person:
"...but it's not true. I think a lot of my work
was a substitute for not having love. I would never
say never, but I just don't feel very ambitious...
Maybe, I'm sort of moving toward retirement.. I'd
like to have my own recording studio and really stay
at home. I think I'll always sing. To tell you the
truth, I'd like to write a book. I would like to set
the record straight." On her LP: "...the
album came out of a very passionate moment... My love
for Virginia (Virginia Kelley, President Clinton's
mother)... the idea for the album started at
Virginia's funeral. It was purely being struck by the
power of the music and the unity that was channeled
through all the people in that room... a direct link
to God in some way. I heard this song, "On Holy
Ground," and I thought it was so beautiful and
so poignant and so full of praise and gratitude
toward this higher presence, I said I want to sing
that song and other songs like it."
Higher
Ground

"Evergreen (Theme From "A Star Is
Born") was certified platinum.

Streisand found praise and controversy with a TV
movie that her production company produced. The
Long Island Incident was criticized by the
National Rifle Association's Charlton Heston. Heston
even challenged Streisand to a public debate on gun
control, to which she responded: "I don't think
Mr. Heston's challenge to a debate on gun control
would serve the public interest, however much it
might serve the public curiosity, and however much it
might serve Mr. Heston's desire to heighten awareness
of his viewers or to get elected president of the
NRA, I will not let him use me for that
purpose."
Streisand got married to actor, James Brolin, at her
home in Malibu with creative ways to keep the media
away including spotlights and White Zombie
music. "Thunderkiss '65" by White Zombie
played repeatedly from a van parked outside
Streisand's estate to keep the curious from listening
in on the ceremony.
It was reported that Streisand may be contemplating a
