Rolling Stone
described Bieber as having "...something
more important for a young pop star than chops:
personality. He's got an odd combination of
guileness and swagger that makes puppy-love
goop... sound both sweet and playful."
Hailing from Canada, Bieber first became noticed
with his performances on YouTube.com (posted by
his proud mom) - which got the notice of manager,
Scooter Braun, who eventually became Bieber's
manager. Braun was able to get Bieber a meeting
with Usher which led to his recording
contract with Island Records. In addition to
singing, Bieber taught himself how to play piano,
drums, and guitar.
March 1: Justin Drew Bieber was
born in Ontario, Canada.
November 3: Bieber began his 'Urban
Behavior Tour' in Edmonton after a delay due to
illness.
November 17: Bieber released the EP My
World.
Entertainment Weekly described the EP as
"...long on sugary puppy-love ballads and
dinky dance-pop confections..."
February 6: Bieber hit the ARC Weekly Top 40 with help from Ludacriswith
"Baby". The single hit the
Top 10 in Canada, Australia, Ireland, New
Zealand, and the UK.
March 23: Bieber released My
World 2.0. The LP sold over 283,000
copies its first week of release in the US and
also topped the LP charts in Canada, Australia,
Brazil, Ireland, Spain, and New Zealand.
April 10: Bieber topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart for 4 non-consecutive
weeks and Digital Albums chart for a week with My
World 2.0.The LP also topped the LP
charts in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, New
Zealand, and Spain.
April 26: Several fans were injured
in Australia prior to a performance by Bieber
when the crowd began to get too large and create
a crowd crush - the performance was cancelled.
February 11: Bieber's 3D documentary
film Never
Say Never opened in theaters. The film went
on to earn $73 million dollars - making it the
highest grossing concert film up to that time.
February 17: Bieber was back on CSI
only to have his character killed by police.
March 5: Bieber topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart for 1 week with Never
Say Never - The Remixes. The LP sold over 165,000
copies its first week of release in the US and
also topped the LP chart in Canada.
November 19: Bieber topped the
Billboard 200 chart for 1 week with Under
The Mistletoe. The LP sold over 210,000 copies
its first week of release in the US and also
topped the LP charts in Canada, Greece, and
Mexico.
July 7: Bieber topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart for 1 week, Digital Albums
chart for 1 week, and Internet Albums chart with Believe. The LP sold over 374,000
copies its first week of release in the US and
also topped the charts in Argentina, Australia,
Austria, Canada, Croatia, Greece, Holland,
Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Spain, Sweden,
and the UK.
February 16: Bieber topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart for 1 week and Digital
Albums chart for 1 week with Believe
Acoustic. The LP also topped the LP charts
in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Spain, and Canada.
July 18: Bieber topped the
Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs chart for 2
weeks and Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart
for 4 weeks helping out Skrillex
and Diplo with "Where Are U Now."
November 13: Bieber released Purpose. The LP would go on to
make the Top 20 on the 'Best Pop Albums of 2015'
charts in Rolling Stone and Entertainment
Weekly.
December 5: Bieber topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart for 1 week and Digital
Albums chart for 1 week with Purpose. The LP sold over 522,000
copies its first week of release in the US and
also topped the LP charts in Australia, Brazil,
Canada, Holland, Ireland, New Zealand, Sweden,
and Switzerland.
August 13:Bieber topped
the Billboard Digital Songs chart for 1 week,
Dance/Electronic Songs chart for 2 weeks, and
Dance/Electronic Songs Digital chart for 1 week
helping out Major Lazer and MO
with "Cold Water."
August 27:Bieber topped
