Shawn Mendes was born on
August 8, 1998in Canada. Shawn originally began
to get noticed posting his 6 second cover videos
on the video sharing application, Vine. The
exposure and popularity he received led to being
discovered by artist manager, Andrew Gertler, and
being signed to Island Records.
May 2: Shawn topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart for 1 week, Album Sales
chart for 1 week, Internet Albums chart for 1
week, and Digital Albums chart for 1 week with Handwritten. The LP sold over 106,000
copies its first week of release in the US.
October 15: Shawn topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart for 1 week, Album Sales
chart for 1 week, Internet Albums chart for 2
weeks, and Digital Albums chart for 1 week with Illuminate.
October 22: Shawn topped the
Billboard Adult Pop Songs chart for 6 weeks wtih
"Treat You Better."
June 9: Shawn topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart for 1 week, Digital Albums
chart for 1 week, Internet Albums chart for 1
week, and Album Sales chart for 1 week with Shawn
Mendes.
July: Shawn canceled the
reamining dates of his tour to focus on his
mental health: "I started this tour excited
to finally get back to playing live after a long
break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I
was not at all ready for how difficult touring
would be after this time away. It has become more
clear that I need to take the time I've never
taken personally, to ground myself and come back
stronger."
