"Pop is
actually my least favorite kind of music,
because it lacks real depth." - Christina
Aguilera
TIMELINE
Christina Maria Aguilera was born
December 18, 1980 in New York and later raised in
Pennsylvania. The urge to entertain came early
for Christina with an appearance on TV's Star
Search at age 9, talent shows and special
singing engagements, and as a member of the
member of The
New Mickey Mouse Clubby age 12. When
Christina was 14 she toured Japan after dueting
with Japanese singer, Keizo Nakanishi, on
"All I Wanna Do." But childhood and
emerging stardom didn't come easy for Christina.
Her childhood included a traumatic family life
and Christina was often subjected to threats and
vandalism at her home from other peers and
families jealous of her participation in local
talent shows - eventually resulting in the family
moving.
June 2: : Christina made the
cross-over to eventual stardom with a request to
audition and then sing the track
"Reflection" for the Disney film Mulan - a Top 20 Adult
Contemporary hit. Christina got a record deal
from RCA Records.

whatsoever. I'm shaking right now." She was
also nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ("Genie In A Bottle"). Backstage,
Christina said "I wasn't expecting it at
all, just like I wasn't expecting the
nomination." Christina said at the Grammys:
"I really want to try to take pop a little
deeper than it is right now. I want to show
people other areas of myself that they may not be
familiar with. I really want to be seen as a
vocalist."
September 12: Christina released her
Spanish-language LP, Mi
Reflego. The LP featured 5 Spanish versions
of previously released material from her debut LP
and 5 original tracks. Mi
Reflego topped the Billboard Latin 50

ceremony was cancelled due to the terrorist

hype, no gloss."
