"It's a
constant fight to prove I have talent. It's
frustrating. Every 2 years I hear 'This new
girl's going to knock you off your pedestal,'
and 2 years later, she's a waitress again." - Pink,
2009
TIMELINE
Pink was born Alecia Moore
on September 8, 1979 and grew up surrounded by
music, although it wasn't the dance-edged music
she eventually would embrace. Early into her
teens, Pink was spreading her love of dance music
into the clubs of Philadelphia. By age 13, Pink
was joining a friend's rap group, 'Schools Of
Thought' providing background vocals. Pink
eventually made it into the front of the
microphone and began writing her own music. Her
ambition led to a MCA Records request to join a
group named 'Basic Instinct' which didn't last
long but led to another female trio, 'Choice.'
The group didn't stay together long either, but
had Pink ready for a solo career and a place at
LaFace Records.
November 20: Pink released Missundaztood. Pink said of the LP's
title: "I say the wrong things. I tell the
truth, which tends to get me in trouble and I'm a
very eclectic person, so I feel that's
misunderstood as well." Pink described Missundaztood as "...more
versatile, it's a lost less contrived, it's a lot
more me."
April: As debate over gay
marriage began, Pink told The
Advocate: "If you want to marry 'Joe
Millionaire,' go ahead. If you're a celebrity and
you want to marry your high school sweetheart for
hours, go right ahead. If you're J.Lo and you
want to marry 18 people for six days each, hey go
right on ahead! But if you happen to be
reasonably minded and have fallen in love and
want to marry your soul mate and make a life of
it - and you just so happen to be the same sex -
then, no, how dare you! You demon creatures! We'd
rather you just buy gasoline and support our war
and continue to consume and fear in our country
so we can make money off you. But do us a favor:
Don't hold hands in public."
October 6: Pink topped the Billboard
200 LP chart for 1 week, Top Internet Albums
chart for 1 week, and Digital Albums chart for 1
week with The
Truth About Love. The LP was Pink's first #1 LP and
sold over 280,000 copies its first week of
release in the US.
October 28: Pink topped the Billboard
Dance Club Play Songs chart for 1 week with
"What About Us."
November 4: Pink topped the Billboard
200 LP chart for 2 weeks, Digital Albums chart
for 1 week, Internet Albums chart for 2 weeks,
and Albums Sales chart for 2 weeks with Beautiful
Trauma.
