 Fleetwood Mac has seen many
incarnations since its forming in 1967. In
all there have been 15 members: Peter Green,
Jeremy Spencer, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie,
Danny Kirwan, Christine McVie, Bob Welch, Bob
Weston, Dave Walker, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie
Nicks, Rick Vito, Billy Burnette,
Bekka Bramlett, and Dave Mason. But it is the
combination of Mick, John, Christine, Stevie
and Lindsey that has allowed Fleetwood Mac to
stand the test of musical time with their
historic Rumours.

 Fleetwood Mac was originally
formed as a British blues band in 1967
by guitarist Peter Green, of John Mayall's
Bluesbreakers, Mick Fleetwood (drums), John
McVie (bass), and Jeremy Spencer (guitarist).
Their name came from the names of Fleetwood
and McVie.
Fleetwood Mac released their
first LP, Peter
Green's Fleetwood Mac, in 1968
the same year McVie married Christine
Perfect. Considered to be a blues recording,
the LP was successful for the band, as was
their second LP, Mr.
Wonderful, also released in 1968. The
band had refined their sound more and added a
guitarist, Danny Kirwan.
 In 1969,
Fleetwood Mac had their first #1 single in
Europe with "Albatross" and
released English
Rose. Fleetwood Mac signed with
Warner Brothers and released Then
Play On which contains the
classic, "Oh Well." The LP marked
Fleetwood Mac's emergence into rock (and away
from blues).

Green left the group after
having a drink spiked with LSD and never
fully recovering. Mick took over as leader of
the band.
Christine McVie
(keyboards) joined the band.

 Kiln
House was released.

Spencer left the band to join a
religious cult, and Bob Welch
joined the band. The band had now established
their characteristic sound. Kirwan was fired
from the band after problems with drinking
and personal conflicts with the band members.
Bob West and Dave Walker were added to the
Fleetwood Mac line-up.

 Future
Games was released.

Fleetwood Mac released Bare
Trees.

Penguin was released.

 After touring the LP, Walker
left the band and Mystery
To Me was released with the
track "Hypnotized." During touring,
Weston had an affair with Fleetwood's wife,
and was dropped from the band forcing them to
cancel the remaining tour dates.

By 1974, only Fleetwood, Welch,
and the McVies' remained in the band.
 After some conflict over who
owned the "Fleetwood Mac" name, the
band released Heroes
Are Hard To Find.
Welch left the band at the end
of the year after problems and creative
differences during touring.

After relocating to California, Lindsey
Buckingham and Stevie
Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac.

 After recording for 3 months
together, the newly re-vamped Fleetwood Mac
released Fleetwood
Mac . The band had their
first #1, multi-million selling LP in the
U.S., and hits with "Rhiannon,"
"Say You Love Me," and "Over
My Head." Even though Stevie Nicks made
it into the band because Fleetwood knew he
couldn't get Buckingham without her, she
became the star of the band.
While their success increased,
personal problems were felt within the band.
John and Christine McVie divorced, as did
Mick and his wife, and Lindsey and Stevie
broke off a their 7 year relationship.

Bare
Trees was certified gold.

Mystery
To Me was certified gold.

 The personal turmoil felt with
the band members resulted in Rumours released. The LP went
on to sell over 18 million copies in the
U.S., spend 31 weeks at #1, and contained the
singles, "Don't Stop," "Go
Your Own Way," "You Make Loving
Fun," and the #1 single,
"Dreams."
Rumours was certified gold by
the end of the month.

The single "Dreams"

Fleetwood Mac won a Grammy Award for
Album of the Year (Rumours).

 After extensive touring and
incredible anticipation for a Rumours follow-up, Fleetwood
Mac released a double LP, Tusk. The LP sold over 4
million copies and had two Top 10 hits with
"Tusk" and "Sara", yet
many critics felt the LP was too experimental
and the tracks represented solo
contributions, and not a band collaboration.
Fleetwood Mac received a star on
the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Rock
'N Roll Hall Of Fame's 500
Songs That Shaped Rock And Roll includes "Go Your
Own Way."

Fleetwood Mac returned in grand
style. Commemorating the 20th anniversary of
the classic LP, Rumours, Fleetwood Mac was
hard to miss. The most well-known band
configuration (Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie
Nicks, Christine McVie, John McVie, and Mick
Fleetwood) reunited in Los Angeles for an
intimate performance.

 The
Dance, a recording of their live
performance in L.A. was released and the band
toured into the end of the year. Many have
asked, "what prompted the reunion?"
According to Mick Fleetwood, it wasn't for
the money or rejuvenation of fame. Mick had
asked Lindsey to record on his solo LP and
eventually the other members of Fleetwood Mac
were brought in as well. The band members
apparently like working together again and
the music they were creating - and viola, The
Dance (which featured 4 new songs).
The
Dance debuted at #1 on the
Billboard 200 Albums chart (where it stayed
for a week).
The first single from the LP,
"Silver Springs," was a song
dropped off the Rumours LP and hit the Top 40.
 The
Dance was certified platinum.
Fleetwood Mac returned to the Top 10 with "Silver Springs."
Fleetwood Mac appeared on the
cover of Rolling Stone.

The Fleetwood Mac reunion tour
ended in Maryland. Christine McVie was
reportedly exhausted by the intensity of
touring. Daily Variety has reported
that the rest of the band had wanted to
continue touring after the holidays. The tour
had grossed over $36 million from 44 venues.
The tour and LP were both considered
financial successes for the band, and there
was talk to take the tour overseas.
