"I
don't look at the road as work, especially
when you're surrounded by your closest
friends. For me this is living in the
moment." - Nelly Furtado
TIMELINE
Nelly Furtado was born
December 2, 1978 in British Columbia, Canada.
Nelly grew up with a Portuguese background
(singing in Portuguese and English by age 4, and
playing the ukulele and trombone by age 9) and
strong desire for R&B music. Her own eclectic
sounds began getting noticed on radio in 2001
with her break-through hit "I'm Like A Bird" and her unique sound
that mixes various languages (English,
Portuguese, and Hindi). Local appearances in
Toronto eventually led to a recording contract
with Dreamworks Records and to her debut LP.
