TIMELINE
Katy Perry was born
'Katheryn Hudson' on October 25, 1984. The
singer-songwriter was brought up in a religious
household in California where Katy music was not
supported and described as 'devil's work.'
Although she began her singing in a church and
released a Christian LP in 2001 (Katy
Hudson),
Katy soon diverted from her religious teachings.
Katy's first shot at attention came in the form
of The Matrix - a production
team that planned to record their own LP with
Katy as one of the vocalists before the plans
were terminated.
October 23: Katy
Hudson
was released. The LP was Katy's only Christian
music release.
November 20: After signing with
Columbia Records, Katy released her first single
"Ur So Gay" which failed to hit the Top
40 but got her noticed for its controversial
lyrics and its playful appeal.
June 17: Katy released her
major-label debut LP One
Of The Boys. The LP hit the Top 10 in the US,
Canada, Germany, Ireland, Austria, Holland,
France, Greece, Ireland, Mexico, Norway, Poland,
and Switzerland.
July 5: Katy topped the Billboard
Hot 100 chart for 7 weeks, Pop 100 chart for 7
weeks, Hot Digital Songs chart for 6 weeks, and
Hot Digital Tracks chart for 6 weeks with "I Kissed A Girl."
July 26: Katy topped the Billboard
Hot Dance Airplay chart for 5 weeks with "I Kissed A Girl."
August 10: Katy topped the UK
singles chart for 5 weeks with "I Kissed A Girl." The song also
topped the charts in Australia, Austria, Belgium,
Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Ireland,
Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway,
Sweden, and Switzerland.
November 15: Katy topped the ARC Weekly Top 40 for 4 weeks with "Hot N' Cold." The song also topped the
charts in Austria, Canada, Denmark, Germany, and
Norway.
June 27: Katy topped the UK
singles chart for 2 weeks with "California Gurls." The song also
topped the charts in Australia, Canada, Hungary,
Ireland, New Zealand, Poland, and Scotland.
September 5: Katy topped the UK LP
chart for 1 week with Teenage
Dream.
The LP also topped the LP charts in Australia,
Austria, Canada, Scotland, New Zealand, and
Ireland.
September 11: Katy topped the Billboard
200 LP chart for 1 week and Top Digital Albums
chart for with Teenage
Dream.
The LP sold over 192,000 copies its first
week of release in the US.
September 18: Katy topped the Billboard
Hot 100 chart for 2 weeks with "Teenage Dream." The song also
topped the charts in Ireland, New Zealand, and
Scotland.
September: Katy's appearance on Sesame
Street was pulled from airing after
complaints from parents that found her dress and
dancing with Elmo inappropriate.
October 2: Katy topped the Billboard
Pop Songs chart for 4 weeks and Hot Dance Airplay
chart for 2 weeks with "Teenage Dream."
October 16: Katy topped the Billboard
Radio Songs chart for 1 week and Hot Dance Club
Songs chart for 1 week with "Teenage Dream."
November 3: Katy topped the UK LPs
chart for 1 week with Prism.
November 9: Katy topped the Billboard
200 LP chart for 1 week and Digital Albums chart
for 1 week with Prism. The LP sold over 286,000
copies its first week of release in the US.
