Faithless consists of Rollo
(Armstrong), Sister Bliss (Ayalah Bentovin),
Jamie Catto, Maxi Jazz, and Dave Randall. The
group, a mix of producers and DJs, have been
creating a stir in dance clubs with their
Euro-house blends and electronica sounds
internationally. Rollo, who has a degree in
philosophy, created his first music recording
with friends, Felix and Red
Jerry. The track, "Don't You Want
Me" went on to become a million-seller
for Felix in 1992. This success helped Rollo
find more good fortune with producing,
remixing, and writing for other artists
including Simply Red, Donna Summer, Pet Shop Boys,
and M People.
Rollo turned his sights on
making his own music with his own band.
Sister Bliss had already found music success
with the dance hits "Can't Get A Man,
Can't Get A Job (Life's A Bitch)" and
"Oh What A World," and DJ-ing
around the U.K. before joining in with
Faithless. Their first big break as a group
came with the success of "Insomnia"
in Germany, and the subsequent hits
"Salva Mea" and
"Reverence."
Faithless released Reverence on Rollo's label,
Cheeky Records (later distributed by Arista
Records). Rollo told Muzik Magazine:
"Each of us have our own individual
musical agendas and ambitions, we've each set
our own goals, and whatever they may be,
we're going to achieve them. Without the
slightest hesitation. Me and Sister Bliss are
going to be the first international superstar
producers to arrive from house. The whole
music scene is converging and we can only
benefit." A new version of the track
"Insomnia" hit the Top 5 in the
U.K. later in the year.
Faithless topped the Billboard
Dance Club Play chart for a week with
"Salva Mea (Save Me)."
