Rufus Wainwright was born July 22, 1973 to parents
Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle of the
McGarrigle Sisters and raised in Canada. The
singer-songwriter began his musical journey by taking
piano lessons when he was 6. Rufus was honest about
his homosexuality since his teens, and was began to
get musical recognition by 1990 when he was nominated
for a Juno Award for Most Promising Male Vocalist of
the Year.
Rufus released his debut LP Rufus
Wainwright.
Rufus was named Best New Artist by Rolling
Stone and was named the Best Debut Artist by
GLAMA.
Rufus won a Juno Award for Best Alternative Album (Rufus
Wainwright).
