The New York Daily News
reported that Carly Simon has been battling
breast cancer since last October and is
undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Simon had
a malignant tumor removed from her breast
last fall: "I was in the hospital for 1
night... because they got everything during
the procedure, and the prognosis was good, my
doctor gave me the option of whether to have
chemo. I decided to play it safe... I feel
stronger and more vital than ever."
Simon decided to go public with news after
she learned that a tabloid newspaper was
going to run the story.

"Scar" inadvertendly deals with
Carly's struggle with cancer: "One day
in my bathtub I was looking out the window at
snow and I wrote the first verse. I was
thinking about my scar and how it is
something that would make a person who is
loved more lovable. If you love somebody, you
just want to kiss and protect their scars -
you want to protect the things about them
that make them vulnerable."
Carly was nominated for 2 Boston
Music Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year
and Album of the Year (The
Bedroom Tapes).

out Janet Jackson on her hit "Son Of A Gun."
