Macy Gray was born September 9,
1970 in Canton, Ohio - growing up loving
music and training classical piano for 7
years. Macy eventually landed in Los Angeles
to pursue screenwriting and also began
writing songs. A lucky break came when Macy
had to substitute vocals for one of her songs
when a scheduled singer was a no-show. The
recording resulted in a request to sing jazz
music with a local jazz band. By 1998, Macy
had a contract with Epic Records.
