Daft Punk consists of
Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter
and hail from France. The duo met while in their
teens and began recording demos before joining a
group named 'Darlin'. When the group broke, the
duo became 'Daft Punk' and worked on their love
of house music and experimental technologies
incorporated into their music. Daft Punk's
appearance in robot masks developed first from
shyness and then to represent the merging of
humans and machines.
March 25: Daft Punk released Homework(available for
download at iTunes and Amazon-mp3). The LP hit the Top 10 in
Belgium, France, New Zealand, and the UK.
May 17: Daft Punk topped the
Billboard Dance Music Club Play chart for 1 week
with "Da Funk."
August 16: Daft Punk topped the
Billboard Dance Music Club Play chart for 1 week
with "Around The World."
March 13: Daft Punk released Discovery(available for
download at iTunes and Amazon-mp3). The LP topped the charts
in Switzerland, and hit the Top 10 in Australia,
Austria, Canada, France, Italy, New Zealand,
Norway, Sweden, and the UK.
November 6: Daft Punk released Alive
1997(available for download at iTunes and Amazon-mp3). The live LP was recorded
on November 8, 1997 in England.
January 27: Daft Punk released Daft
Club(available for download at iTunes and Amazon-mp3). The LP was a collection
of remixes from previous tracks released.
March 20: Daft Punk topped the
Billboard Dance Music Club Play chart for 1 week
with "Face To Face."
March 15: Daft Punk released Human
After All(available for download at
iTunes and Amazon-mp3). The LP hit the Top 10 in
Belgium, France, Italy, and Switzerland.
April 2: Daft Punk topped the
Billboard Dance/Electronics Album chart for 1
week with Human
After All.
December 4: Daft Punk released Alive
2007(available for download at iTunes and Amazon-mp3). The LP was recorded June
14, 2007 in Paris. The LP topped the charts in
the France, and hit the Top 10 in Belgium.
December 22: Daft Punk topped the
Billboard Dance/Electronics Album chart for 2
weeks with Alive
2007.
December 7: Daft Punk released music
for the soundtrack to Tron (available for download at
iTunes and Amazon-mp3). The LP hit the Top 10 in
Germany, Mexico, and the US.
December 25: Daft Punk topped the
Billboard Dance/Electronics Album chart for with
the Tron soundtrack.
January 1: Daft Punk topped the
Billboard Digital Albums chart for 3 weeks with
the Tron soundtrack.
May 26: Daft Punk topped the UK
LP chart with Random
Access Memories. The LP also topped the charts in
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland,
France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Mexico,
New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain,
and Switzerland, and hit the Top 10 in Japan,
Poland, South Korea, and Sweden.
June 1: Daft Punk topped the
Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs chart and
Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart with help from Pharrell with "Get Lucky."
June 6: Daft Punk appeared on the
cover of Rolling Stone.
June 8: Daft Punk topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart, Digital Albums chart, and
Dance/Electronic Album chart with Random
Access Memories. The LP sold over 339,000 copies
its first week of release in the US.
June 8: Daft Punk topped the
Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart and
Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart with help
from Pharrell with "Get Lucky."
