Robbie Williams was born
February 13, 1974, in England, and first came
to music fame as part of the U.K. group Take
That before
going off on a solo venture in 1995. Williams
publicly denounced the group which reportedly
actually fired him and Williams wasn't
considered a likely candidate for solo
success, especially when gossip reports
surfaced about Williams partying habits.
Robbie's 1st attempt at solo
success came with the cover of George
Michael's "Freedom 90."
Williams released the single
"Old Before I Die" and his 1st LP
in the U.K., Life
Thru A Lens which allowed Williams
to make news with his music rather than
much-reported fast-paced lifestyle which he
was able to overcome after a stint in rehab. Life
Thru A Lens eventually hit #1 in the U.K.
Williams topped the UK Singles
chart with "Millennium" for 2 weeks.
Williams released his 2nd UK LP,
I've
Been Expecting You and the LP immediately
topped the UK Albums charts for 2 weeks.

"Jesus In A Camper Van." The
lawsuit stated Robbie's song was too similar
to a Loudon Wainwright III' song which was
adapted into Arlo Guthrie's
"I Am The Way."
Williams won a MTV Europe Award
for Best Song ("Rock DJ") and was
nominated for Best Pop Act, Best Male, Best
Video, and Best UK & Ireland Act.
Williams won a My VH1 Music
Award for Best U.K. Act.
While performing in Germany,
Williams was attacked by a fan on stage who
jumped him from behind. Williams was not hurt
and was able to finish the concert - the
attacker was arrested.
Williams took home 3 Brit Awards
for Best British Male Solo Artist, and Best
British Single and Best British Video ("Rock DJ"), and was
nominated for Best British Album (Sing
When You're Winning).
Williams could be heard on the
soundtrack for Bridget
Jones' Diary with "Have You Met Miss
Jones?" and "Not Of This
Earth."
Williams could be heard on the
soundtrack for A
Knight's Tale with a remake of "We Are
The Champions" with Queen.

aid, canceling debt, and delivering trade
justice for Africa.
