Vampire Weekend, consisting of Ezra Koenig on lead
vocals and guitar, Rostam Batmanglij on keyboards and
guitar, Chris Tomson on drums, and Chris Baio on
bass, hail from New York and formed in 2006. The
creation of Vampire Weekend began when the band
members met at Columbia University. After graduating
college, the boys self-produced their first album and
eventually signed with XL Recordings. Two years
before Vampire Weekend released their debut LP, there
was internet buzz - proclaiming the band as a group
to watch out for. Vampire Weekend have described
their sound as 'Upper West Side Soweto.'

copies its first week of release in the US.
