t.A.T.u. hail from Russia and consists of teens Lena
Katina (Katina Elena Sergeevna) and Julia Volkova
(Volkova Yulia Olegovna) . The duo was developed by
Russian producer, Ivan Shapovalov in 1999. Before
hitting the charts around the world, t.A.T.u. became
a sensation in Russia with their provocative video
and their debut LP selling over 1 million copies in
their homeland. t.A.T.u. hit the Russian charts with
"Ya Soshla s Uma (I've Lost My Mind)" and
"Nas Ne Dogoniat (They Won't Catch Us").
Part of the appeal and controversy surrounding the
duo has been their projection of teen-lesbian
imagery.
