Stone Temple Pilots, consisting
of Scott Weiland, Robert DeLeo, Dean DeLeo,
and Eric Kretz, emerged with the 'grunge
rock' success of the mid-90s. STP formed
originally as 'Mighty Joe Young' in
California with Weiland on vocals and Robert
DeLeo on bass before changing their name to
Stone Temple Pilots and adding Robert's
brother, Dean, on guitar and Kretz on drums.

arrested in New York for heroin possession
(10 packets). Weiland was in the midst of his
solo tour in support of his LP, 12
Bar Blues, at the time of the arrest.
Weiland had previously been arrested for drug
possession in 1995 and last year.
A
"bench" warrant for Weiland was
issued after he failed to appear in court for
a second time to face charges of drug
possession. After 2 weeks on the
"run" from an arrest warrant,
Weiland was arrested in L.A. and released on
bail a day later. By the end the month,
Weiland was not back in court but in rehab in
California instead. Weiland's case was
adjourned until November while he undergoes
treatment.
Weiland plead
guilty to felony heroin possession with a
sentence of 3 months at a drug treatment and
3 years probation with random drug testing.
Weiland stated he was "...very happy
about the opportunity the judge has given
me."
Weiland was
back in jail for violating his probation.
Weiland was
sentenced to a year in jail in California.
The judge said in court: "Mr. Weiland
has to be punished."

heroin were found in his BMW. He was soon
back in rehab.

probation for the May arrest on drug

under the influence after being involved in a
car accident when Weiland's BMW hit a parked
van. He was ordered by a judge into detox
immediately for violating probation.

cocaine, alcohol, and ecstacy.
