Chris Isaak was born June 26,
1956 in California. With a style reminiscent
of the 60s and a sound that combines
rockabilly with rock and soul, Isaak has
created his own style of swooning, 90s style.
Music appears to have won out as one of
Isaak's passions, which also has included
surfing and boxing. Isaak's musical roots
date back to when he would sing country
ballads with his brother to their mom until
she cried. Isaak's musical roots began after
finishing college when he formed a rockabilly
band called Silvertone. Members of the band
eventually became Isaak's permanent band.
Isaak signed with Warner Brother Records
after many performances in the clubs of San
Francisco. As CMJ New Music Report
puts it: "...there's no denying that
Chris Isaak, the Stockton California native
with a pompadour, has 1 of the most beautiful
and moody voices in pop..."
Isaak signed with Warner Brother
Records and released Silvertone (with a LP cover
reminiscent of Elvis Presley).
The video for
"Dancin'" was nominated for 2 MTV Video Music
Awards for Best Direction and Most Experimental Video.
Isaak released his debut LP, Chris
Isaak and although sales weren't
high, critics embraces Isaak's refreshing
sound.
Isaak appeared in the film, Married
To The Mob and contributed the track,
"Suspicion Of Love."
The LP Heart
Shaped World, was released and contained his
breakthrough hit, "Wicked Game."
Isaak's notoriety increased with
the release of the film Wild At Heart
and the inclusion of "Wicked Game" in the film. The
track went Top 10 and renewed interest in
Isaak's LP, Heart
Shaped World. More exposure came for Isaak
when the video for "Wicked Game" was redone
featuring Isaak and model Helena Christensen
in a steamy black-and-white video.
