Before striking out on a solo career, Everlast (aka
Erik Schrody) became known to the music community as
the frontman for House Of Pain
(who had a Top 10 hit with "Jump
Around" in 1992) and as a member of Ice-T's
'Rhyme Syndicate Cartel.' Ice-T
also helped out with Everlast's 1st solo LP, Forever
Lasting.
After the success of House Of Pain
and the breakup in 1996, Everlast encountered heath
problems with a defective heart valve.
Everlast reflected on his health to CNN (2 years
after quitting the rap act House Of Pain,
Everlast was hospitalized due to a defective heart
valve which was replaced): "As weird as it
sounds, it's one of the best things that ever
happened to me. First of all, it's over and done with
as long as I take care of myself, and I live so much
healthier now than I did before. And, you know, I
smile a lot more than I did before. I'm grateful
about this. This is great."
Everlast released his first solo LP, Whitey
Ford Sings The Blues - a mix of rock and rap styles.

topped the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for 9
weeks.

Everlast released an EP, Today
(Watch Me Shine) with the tracks "Put Your Lights
On" (with Carlos Santana), a live version of "What It's Like," a rock version of
"Jump Around," a remix of "Today
(Watch Me Shine)," and the cover "Blues For
X-Mas."
Everlast appeared on the End
Of Days
soundtrack with "So Long."
Everlast won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group ("Put Your Lights
On" with Santana) and was nominated for Best Rock Vocal Performance - Male ("What It's Like").
Everlast hit the Top 40 helping out Santana with "Put Your Lights On."
Everlast opened for Santana through the month and into
October.
Everlast released his next LP, Eat
At Whitey's.
Eat
At Whitey's was certified platinum.
At an Everlast concert in Detroit, 2 people
were seriously hurt after 3 men reportedly tried to
attack Everlast on stage after he made some negative
statements about Eminem.
Everlast could be heard on the soundtrack for Ali with "The Greatest."
