- The Civil Wars consists of
Joy Williams and John Paul White. Williams began
her recording career following her Christian
up-bringing with 3 Christian LPs (Joy
Williams, By Surprise, and Genesis)
that resulted in 11 Dove Award nominations.
Williams also released a few non-Christian EPs.
White was raised in Tennessee and recorded the LP
The Long Goobye in 2008 prior to meeting
Williams.Williams and White met at 'song writing
camp' in Nashville, Tennessee and formed the
Civil Wars in 2009. The Civil Wars released the
EP Live At Eddie's Attick as a free
download in 2009.
- July 1: Williams gave birth to a
baby boy.
- October 30: The Civil Wars could be
heard on the holiday compilation Holidays
Rule
on the track "I Heard The Bells On Christmas
Day."
- November 6: The Civil Wars announced
they were cancelling tour dates due to
"internal discord and irreconcilable
differences of ambition."
- January 13: The Civil Wars were
nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best
Original Song ("Safe & Sound" with Taylor Swift).
- August 6: The Civil Wars released
their next LP The
Civil Wars (available for download at iTunes and Amazon.mp3 ).
August 24: The Civil Wars topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart, Digital Albums chart,
Rock Albums chart, and Folk Albums chart with The
Civil Wars. The LP sold over 116,000 copies
its first week of release in the US.
