- Arcade Fire hail from
Canada and currently consist of Win Butler, his
wife Regine Chassagne, Richard Reed Parry,
William Butler, Jeremy Gara, Sarah Neufeld, and
Tim Kingsbury.
- The
group started with Butler and Josh Deu performing
in Boston as Arcade Fire before going to Montreal
and adding Chassagne, Myles Broscoe, Dane Mills,
and Brendan Reed.
- By
2003, several members began leaving, and others
joined. Arcade Fire quickly became known for
their extensive music instrument variety they
used on tour and on their critically acclaimed
albums.
- September 14: Arcade Fire released
their debut LP Funeral (available for download at
iTunes and Amazon-mp3). The LP title reflected
the loss of a few family members of the band.
Although commercial success for the LP was low,
the LP was universally praised by critics.
Rolling Stone described the LP as
"...(aching) with elegiac intensity...
(capturing) the agony and even ecstasy of
surviving death all around you."
- July 12: Arcade Fire re-released
the EP Arcade
Fire
(available for download at iTunes). The EP was originally
released in 2003.
- April 2: Arcade Fire won the
Songwriter of the Year Award for
"Neighborhood #3 (Power Out),"
"Rebellion (Lies)," and "Wake
Up."
- February 24: Arcade Fire performed
"Intervention" and "Keep The Car
Running" on Saturday Night Live.
- March 3: Arcade Fire released Neon
Bible
(available for download at iTunes and Amazon-mp3).
- March 24: Arcade Fire topped the
Billboard Digital Albums chart for 1 week and
Rock Albums chart for 1 week with Neon
Bible.
The LP topped the charts in Canada and Ireland,
and Top 10 in the US, Australia, Belgium, France,
Iceland, Norway, and the UK.
- April 8: Arcade Fire won a Juno
Award for Alternative Album of the Year (Neon
Bible).
- August 2: Arcade Fire released The
Suburbs (available for download at
iTunes and Amazon-mp3).
- August 21: Arcade Fire topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart for 1 week, the Digital
Albums chart for 1 week, the Rock Albums chart
for 2 weeks, and the Alternative Albums chart for
4 weeks with The
Suburbs. The LP also topped the charts in
Canada, Belgium, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, and
the UK, and hit the Top 10 in Australia,
Switzerland, Finland, France, Germany, Holland,
Sweden, and Spain.
- November 13: Arcade Fire performed
"We Used To Wait" and "Sprawl II
(Mountains Beyond Mountains)" on Saturday
Night Live.
- May 19: Arcade Fire performed on Saturday
Night Live.
- November 9: Arcade Fire topped the UK
LP chart with Reflektor.
- November 16: Arcade Fire topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart, Digital Albums chart,
Rock Albums chart, and Alternative Albums chart
with Reflektor.
- August 19: Arcade Fire topped the
Billboard 200 LP chart, Album Sales chart,
Digital Albums chart, Rock Albums chart, and
Alternative Albums chart with Everything
Now.
- August 26: Arcade Fire topped the
Billboard Adult Alternative Songs chart with
"Everything Now."
- March 17: Arcade Fire performed on Saturday
Night Live.
- May 6: Arcade Fire released We.
- May 19: Arcade Fire topped the UK
LP chart with We.
- May 21: Arcade Fire topped
